When we look at world events, sometimes we are prone to question the future. Nations rise against each other and often only stalemates in accomplishing whatever they are after. If we look only at history and current events, we could get very discouraged and wonder what tomorrow holds. However when we look at the Scriptures, we can be assured that God has the final word, and He has everything in His complete control.

Haggai 2:7 says, “I will shake all nations, and the Desire of All Nations shall come to this Temple, and I will fill this place with my glory…” (TLB).

The Almighty God we serve has eventual control over all the affairs of men and women. As we labor for His cause, we can be assured that what we do has everlasting purposes. We need not wonder about the final outcome, because God has declared it in His Word. The events taking place in our world today were predicted by Haggai and other prophets in the Old Testament.

God says, “I will shake the nations.” The beautiful part of this passage, however, has to do with the fulfillment of God’s great plan for our redemption and our time with Him throughout eternity.

“The Desire of All Nations” refers, of course, to Jesus Christ. Haggai saw Christ long before He came to this earth and gave His life for us. Through the divine inspiration of God’s Holy Spirit to men and women of Haggai’s day, — as well as to all of us today — He revealed that what the world needs is the Desire of All Nations. It is hard to believe that all the nations of the world, in their heart of hearts, really desire Jesus Christ to be their Lord?

This will be the eventual outcome of History. Look at Haggai 2:8, 9. “The future splendor of this Temple will be greater than the splendor of the first one! For I have plenty of silver and gold to do it! And here I will give peace,’ says the Lord.”

When problems and questions about the future swirl around us, we can take heart. We already know the end of the story!

In choosing the path we will follow in our daily walk first we must seek direction for our lives.

Each new day we are presented with the same situation as Joshua and the children of Israel after Moses had died. Camped on the opposite side of Jordan River from the Promised Land, they were facing a path which they had never taken before in order to reach the place God had prepared for them.

In Joshua, we read his exhortation to the people – dedicate yourselves to serving the Lord and be ready in the morning to step out in faith, trusting God to accomplish all that He said He would do.

When we are not exactly sure which direction to take in our lives, trusting our guidance to someone who knows exactly how to get there and has been there many times before, is the best course. When we are seeking direction in our lives, there can be no better guide than our Lord and spiritual shepherd.

Wherever He leads we can be assured He knows the prefect path and if we will follow Him instead of our attempting to teach God a better way to go, our journey will be smoother and more peaceful than our way.

In choosing the path we will follow in our daily walk we must seek direction for our lives and secondly we must trust His promises for our guidance

Just consider this small sample of God’s promises concerning His guidance:

Psalm 25:9 He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way.

Isaiah 30:21 Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

Psalm 143:10 Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

Third in choosing the path we will follow in our daily walk we must seek the Lord through His Word, in prayer and in continued fellowship with our Savior.

It is important it is for us to be well versed in the Word and have a consistent and active relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer and fellowship so that when we are presented with advice and direction from others we can properly discern when it is man speaking versus God.
When we have a casual approach to understanding God’s direction as contained in His Word and seeking God’s will in our lives, when confronted by differing messages and possible directions, we can find ourselves taking more wrong turns and detours.

Even though, through God’s grace, we may still arrive where God desires, the path will have been longer and probably have cost us more in anxiety and delayed opportunities.

Choose God above all others as the leader of your life, trusting in His wisdom, knowledge, power and love for you as He leads you in His perfect will and continually refresh your relationship with Him through prayer, study of His Word and fellowship with other believers in order that you might be equipped to discern the truth among all the choices you are confronted with each day.

I pray that you will take the time this week to make sure you know who is in control of your travels in this life and that you are spending enough time in the Word and checking in with God through prayer on a continuous basis to make sure you can hear His voice, reminding you not only when to turn but also when you might need to make a YOU TURN – back to Jesus as Lord of your life.

As I sat enjoying the blessings of God and the manifestations of His power on Easter Sunday; I began to think of what could this day mean to us throughout the entire year…It is a continuing encouragement.

“The Encouragement of Easter”
I Peter 1:3-9

On any given Sunday there are people sitting beside us in church who are dying on the inside. Sometimes it’s even us and we have coined many terms to describe this hurt. The terminology we come up with for this chronic power shortage and despair includes phrases like: I’m worn out…I’m played out…I’m stressed out…I’m burned out…I’m run down…I’m used up…I’m bushed…exhausted…frazzled…bone-weary…dead-tired…I’m on my last leg…I’m at the end of my rope…I’m coming unglued…I’m ready to throw in the towel. Have I got Good News for you! Jesus Christ came back from life’s greatest knockdown, death itself; and He wants to intersect and connect with us today, tomorrow and forever. He wants to meet us at our hurting point and bring life and hope to our deadness.

Jesus is here to give us…A Purpose to Live For. “In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead…” – I Peter 1:3.

We are made by God and for God and we were made to have a relationship with Him. God’s purpose includes hope, “a Living Hope.”

Jesus is here to give us…A Power to Live On. “…who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time” – I Peter 1:5.

Jesus gives us power to control some things, to change some things and He gives us power to cope when control and change are not options.

The encouragement of Easter is that we do not have to be buried by our problems in life. Resurrection power is available.

And if Christ has net been raised, your faith is futile…If only for this life we have hope in Christ; we are to be pitied more than all men. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead. – 1 Corinthians 15:17-20

For the Christian…truly, the very last of life is the very best. The last words D. L. Moody spoke on his death bed: Earth recedes…Heaven opens before me!

Because of Easter Sunday, because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, because he is alive today and promises heaven for us…THE BEST IS YET TO COME!

Some don’t think much about heaven because they don’t understand what it will be like David Lloyd George says: When I was a boy, the thought of Heaven used to frighten me more than the thought of Hell. I pictured Heaven as a place where time would be perpetual Sundays, with perpetual services from which there would be no escaped.

There are three reasons we can say, “The Best is yet to come”.

First the BEST BODY IS YET TO COME (1 Corinthians 15:42-44).

We will not be disembodied spirits in the world to come, but redeemed spirits, in redeemed bodies, in a redeemed universe. – R. A. Torrey

The body that is sown in perishable, it is raised imperishable (1 Corinthians 15:42). – The body is forever falling apart, breaking down, getting old. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory (1 Corinthians 15:43a). – I don’t know about you, but I can’t tell you the last time I looked in the mirror and said to myself, “Now that is one glorious body, there”.

It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power (1 Corinthians 15:43b). – When I now look at a picture of myself in a bathing suit, I quickly remember that the body of my youth has already gone and I’m left with something very out of shape and ugly but I do know that sometime soon I will have that power-body.

It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body (1 Corinthians 15:44). – Our bodies will have none of the natural limitations we have to endure now… no more bulges, no more pain, no more sickness, and no more unsightliness.

Second the BEST BEAUTY IS YET TO COME (Romans 8:19-23)!

Just as our bodies will be redeemed… so will the creation. Ever since sin entered the garden, the whole world has been subject to the “second law of thermodynamics” which tells us that everything slowly deteriorates. The Bible tells us that “all creation has been groaning” waiting for the arrival of the new heaven and the new earth.

The Garden of Eden must have been an incredible place to live…think how nice heaven will be. A mountain view, on the water, with waving palms, perfect weather and blue skies are a sampling of how perfect the beauty will be.

Third the BEST BLESSING IS YET TO COME (Colossians 3:11b)!
If you had the opportunity to spend the evening with any person who’d ever lived, whom would you choose? Would you say a movie star, or a brilliant mind, a world-class athlete, or someone who is stunningly good looking?

God is the dazzling movie star, the brilliant mind, the world-class athlete, the stunningly attractive. The ones we most admire are made in his image. He’s the source of all that we find fascinating and exciting…he made Bach and Mozart and invented music. He sculpted Mr. or Miss Universe’s body. He invented clever conversation and brilliance. He is not just royal or a head of state…He’s the King of Kings! If you ever think “wouldn’t it be boring to go to heaven and be with God” you’ve completely missed the point of who God is…but Christ is all, and is in all (Colossians 3:11b)!

Wouldn’t it be amazing to spend an evening with that special person and have it go so well that at the end they say…when can we do this again…and an incredible friendship began! It is incredible to think of someone so amazing, actually liking us back! God loves you back and wants to spend eternity with you by giving you an incredible body that will last forever, in beautiful surroundings in friendship with his incredible presence.

Are you certain that for you, THE BEST IS YET TO COME? Do you know you are going to heaven?

Ancient cites kept rolls of their citizens. Guards posted at the city gates to keep enemies out would check names against their list. Nothing impure will ever enter [the city]…but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life. – Revelation 21:27

Many people assume that what they have done, attending church, singing in the choir, serving in a soup kitchen, giving money will be enough to enter heaven. But people who do not respond to Christ’s invitation to forgive their sins will not have their name written in the Lamb’s book of life. Have you said yes to Jesus’ invitation…you can today. He promises you that his risen presence is close at hand right now.

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in. – Revelation 3:20

Seek the Lord while he may be found; Call on him while he is near. – Isaiah 55:6

Have you confessed your sin; asked for forgiveness; accepted Jesus’ presence into your life; looked to his presence to empower you to follow his way; prepared yourself for eternity? You can do it this Easter and then you can say with absolute confidence…no matter what is happening in life right now: THE BEST IS YET TO COME!

Ask the question and pastors everywhere will flock to hear the answer. I thank God for the books, studies and seminars that have been devoted to this burning issue. But I also fear, lest many of my colleagues imagine that they can improve on the finality of what God has already said, and the reality of what God has done in the past and He can do again.

To start with from Scriptural text, Paul the Apostle remind us that when in Corinth, he “planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase.” (1 Corinthians 3:6). Genuine growth is a divine work. We can manipulate numbers in the church, but only God can multiply members in the body.

I have been impressed and excited all over again with Luke’s account of the early days of the church. Take a concordance and look up such words as “thousands”, “increase”, “multiplied”, “numbers” and “multitudes” and see what the Bible means by church growth. A careful examination of these opening chapters reveals that there were at lest seven Spirit-controlled activities that characterized those Pentecostal days.

One, there was Spirit-controlled PRAISE:

“And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart. Praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.” (Acts 2:46-47)

All church life and service should flow from worship. Even their fellowship meals were marked by “gladness” (exurbent joy) and by simplicity (or transparency) of heart.

Worship times were not a stage performance by leaders or singer for a “spectator crowd.” It was rather a time of corporate sharing. (1 Corinthians 14:26; Ephesians 5:18-21; Colossians 3:16-17

Notice the verbs are plural. In our singing and our speaking we are to teach and admonish “one another in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs.” (Colossians 3:16-17)

Two, there was Spirit-controlled PRAYER:

The word “prayer” and its cognates occur a dozen times in the first few pages of Acts. The church virtually marched on its knees. Those Christians believed that “God chooses only to work through .prayer.” (Study the prayer meeting recorded in chapter 4:23-31.)

In many prayer meetings today the very spirit, substance and subsequent signs of that gathering exposes the shallowness and meaningless of our present prayer meetings and often an emphasis on man. We need to recapture what it means to be involved in Spirit-controlled prayer.

Three, there was Spirit-controlled PROFESSION:

These followers of the Lamb were known by such titles as: Disciples – over 30 times, Christians (11:16), The Way (19:9, 23, etc.). All of these are descriptive of men and women who “had been with Jesus.” (4:13) and the quality of their lives demanded a supernatural explanation.

Four, there was Spirit-controlled PROVOCATION:

We read that the disciples “went everywhere preaching the Word.” (8:4). It was a case of “every member evangelism.” No church growth method will ever substitute for this. “Each one reach one” is God’s way, and really the only good way of getting the job done.

Five, there was Spirit-controlled PROCLAMATION:

Peter preached (2:14-36); Stephen preached (7:1-54); Philip preached (8:12, 35); Paul preached (20:9, 25. 28:31). The list could continue on; however we find Paul exhorting Timothy to “Preach the Word, be ready in season, out of season.” (2 Timothy 4:2)

Six, there was Spirit-controlled PERSECUTION:

Stephen was murdered (4:54-60), James was beheaded (12:102), amidst persecution those dear Christians rejoiced: “And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they wee counted worth to suffer shame for his name. And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.” (Acts 5:41-42)

Counterparts in our society – Surely this explains why the church has grown so phenomenally in China and why souls are being saved six times faster in persecuted countries than in all of free Europe

Many times our kind of Christianity in the west is too comfortable to count for God or encounter acts of hostility.

Seven, there was Spirit-controlled PURIFICATION:

When sin reared its ugly head in the church at Jerusalem, judgment fell. (Read carefully Acts 5:1-4). No wonder the death of Ananias and Sspphira created “great fear.” (vs.11). It also created great power and blessing. (See verses 12 -39).

Peter must have remembered this solemn incident when he wrote “for the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God. (1 Peter 4:17). God can never us an unholy church.

Here then are seven Spirit-controlled activities that promote church growth. Spirit-controlled praise, prayer, profession, provocation, proclamation, persecution and purification. How many of the seven are you involved in? No, no, not others YOU.

A few years ago the Assemblies of God established a “Decade of Harvest”. Soon we discovered that a “harvest” involves more than: A Proclamation, A Banner and Printed Goals

(Humor) Someone has said, If you want to be successful: You must attend a Church Growth Seminar, and visit the Holy Land

In recent years we have seen a great Church Growth Movement featuring people like: Dr. Peter Wagner, author of, “The Pentecostals are Coming”, Dr. Win Ern, Dr. George Barna, Dr. Elmer Towns and many more. Church Growth Principles and Publications are in great demand. I have attended some of these seminars and they were helpful in giving us a new focus.

But in the Book of Acts the Bible gives us ten things that must be in place for church growth to occur. Let’s take a quick look at God’s list:

Number one – There must be an ACCORD (Acts 2:1)

You can’t sent the church out until they love each other. They must be melted together in prayer: Begin by asking God for what we want and end by asking God for what He wants

Number two – There must be an AUTHORITY (Acts 2:14)

There is a movement afoot today to destroy the authority of the pastor – to destroy our confidence in God’ man.

Elmer Town author of the “10 Greatest Churches in America” says that the congregations of those churches would follow their pastors “in an assault on hell with water pistols”. They are loyal to their pastor and his authority as their leader

The pastor is not a denominational slave OR a rebel. God’s Man is not “just one of the boys”, he must be God’s Man – If he is, follow him; if he’s not fire him.

The Pastor must be “sent of God, taught by God, and in direct communication with God. A preacher without boldness is like a smooth file or a knife without an edge!

Number three – There must be an ALLEGIANCE (Acts 2:16)

There must be an allegiance to the Word of God as “Spoken by Joel”. There must be Bible Preaching/Teaching. Programs are not enough. You can grow corn by planting marbles as easy as reaping souls without preaching. Put the paper on the front porch, not on the roof.

I’m not smart enough to preach anything but the Bible – I’m too smart to preach anything but the Bible: NOT Sociology BUT Salvation, NOT Economics BUT Evangelism, NOT Reform BUT Redemption, NOT Culture BUT Conversion, NOT Revolution BUT Revival and NOT Civilization BUT Christ.

Number four – There must be an APPROPIRATION (Acts 2:17)

The Holy Spirit is God at work. The power and life of the Holy Spirit must be in you. You can’t do God’s work without God’s power. You better be filled with the Spirit. The power of the Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit are necessary to touch today’s world.

God doesn’t want us to do anything for Him, He want to work through us

Number five – There must be an ADORATION (Acts 2:22)

Lift up Christ: In Praise and Worship. In Christ filled sermons – not just from the pulpit, not just sermons – but Jesus. Not theology – but Jesus (Theology is just a tool you use to preach Jesus). A church that is not a Jesus movement is not a church – A Jesus movement that is not church centered is not a Jesus movement — Preach Christ.

Number six – There must be an ACTIVITY (Acts 2:32; 1:8) – The Activity is Witnessing

They were all at it – they were always at it. With signs following: Matt. 28:19-20 – “I am with you always”, Mark 16:15-16 – “Signs following”, Luke 14:46-7 – “Clothed with power”, John 20: 21-23 – “Ability to help men change”.

Win souls – win souls – win souls. You must witness by your life and your lips. If you refuse to witness – You are not right with God. This means every department and every person.

Number seven – There must be an ATTITUDE (Acts 2:34-36)

They were on the Lord’s side – No negative attitude or spirit. We are the people of God. If God is in your plans – PLAN BIG .

Two reasons why it can’t be done: We’ve never done it before and we have done it before. WE CAN’T DO IT — HE CAN!!

Number eight – There must be an APPEAL ((Acts 2:40)

Plead for souls – - – beg for souls! Give an Invitation (Evangelistic). Be clear, plain, on time, exhort, testify, and invite – - – bring people to Jesus.

Number nine – There must be an ATMOSPHERE (Acts 2:46)

The way we sing – Sometimes we sound like calves dying in a hail storm, the way the pastor stands in the pulpit, the handshake of the usher.

The faces of the saints — Be happy, possess joy, show it. Ask, “Jesus what do you want to accomplish in this service?” and ask, “Jesus what do you want to accomplish in my life in this service?”

Number ten – There must be an ADDITION (Acts 2:47)

If we have the other nine in place we have the promise that the Lord will , ”add daily to the churh those that need to be saved.”

Someone said, “Billy Graham had set evangelism back 50 years”. Mr. Graham responded, “I didn’t mean to, — I meant to set it back 2000 years”.

In summary there must be: 1. AN ACCORD – Love and Unity, 2. AN AUTHORITY – God’s Man, 3. AN ALLEGIANCE – The Word, 4. AN APPROPRIATION – The power of the Holy Spirit, 5. AN ADORATION – Lift up Christ, 6. AN ACTIVITY – Witnessing, 7. AN ATTITUDE – We are the people of God, on God’s side, 8. AN APPEAL – Invitation, 9. AN ATMOSPHERE – Singing, expressing joy, friendly and 10. AN ADDITION – The Lord added daily.

This church in the New Testament was an “Every Member Church”. By this I mean that the church was made up of members that were loyal. Every member should consider himself a vital and important part of his church.

First every member was in attendance – “And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place” (Acts 2:1). They had one purpose – united fellowship as they remembered the exhortation of Christ (John 17:20-21). They were all present; a growing spiritual body needs every service.

Second every member was filled with the Holy Spirit. This means efficiency (Acts 13:1-4), this means power (Acts 1:8), and this is needed today (Ephesians 5:18).

Third every member was anxious and willing to carry out the program of Christ. They met to study the doctrines of Christ. (Acts 2:42), they observed the Lord’s Supper (Acts 2:42), they prayed together (Acts 2:42) and every member gave of his substance (Acts 2:45)

Fourth every member was involved in visiting and witnessing for Christ (Acts 2:4, 46). This explains why so many were converted. Peter did not do it all; every member went from house to house. Spirit – filled members will speak out because a person in love tells it

Fifth every member was filled with joy. It was a church filled with joy, happiness, and singleness of heart (Acts 2:46).

When these five elements were and are present the Word of God tells us that the Lord adds daily to the church – They become a growing church. This means spiritually, unity, fellowship and joy

If you want to be a part of this kind of church and follow the example of the first century church, you must be faithful in attendance, be filled with the Spirit, be anxiously involved in carrying out the work of Christ in the church, be a witness and be full joy – a fruit of the Spirit.

This will enable us to encourage others as well as join them in the participation and ministry to which God has called all of the members of the church to be a part of. Are you willing to become a part of that kind of “Every Member Church”?

2.	THE CHURCH IS A BODY. (This speaks of COOPERATION).
(1 Corinthians 12:12-31)

A. The Apostle Paul spoke of the body having different members or parts.
B.	When all the parts of the body work together, the body will work well.
C.	We become members of His body by the new birth (John 3:1-8).
D.	All are born in sin (Romans 3:23).
E.	Satan is our father.

For you are the children of your father the devil and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning and a hater of truth—there is not an iota of truth in him. When he lies, it is perfectly normal; for he is the father of liars? (John 8:44)

F.	When accepting Christ (John 1:12), we become children of God, and part of His body.
G.	We are baptized into His body (1 Corinthians 12:13).
H.	When all members of the body work together, the body of Christ is powerful.
I.	Lack of cooperation makes the body weak.

J.	THE CHURCH IS A BUILDING. (This speaks of CONSTRUCTION).
(1 Peter 2:5-8)

A.	The Church is built upon Christ (Matthew 16:18).
B.	When built upon Christ we have a stable foundation.
C.	This foundation cannot be destroyed by sin or Satan.
?God, in his kindness, has taught me how to be and expert builder. I have laid the foundation and Apollos has built on it. But he who build the foundation must be very careful. And no one can ever lay any other real foundation than the one we already have—Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 3:10-11).
D.	Christ is the ROCK and all Christians are small stones making up the Church (1 Peter 2:5).
E.	In Ephesians 2:20-21, Paul said the Church was built upon Christ, the Prophets and Apostles.
F.	The church always needs to be improved.
G.	As Christians improve themselves, the church will be STRONGER and more POWERFUL.
H.	The church can be no stronger than its members.

CONCLUSION:

1.	The Church is a BRIDE, this speaks of CLEANSING.
2.	The Church is a BODY, this speaks of COOPERATION.
3.	The Church is a BUILDING, this speaks of CONSTRUCTION.

A.	You are the Church!
B.	If you say, ?The church is not friendly? you are really saying, ?I am not friendly?.
C.	Some church members say, ?The church is not spiritual?. What they are really saying is, ?I am not spiritual?.
D.	The secret of any successful Church is, ?Every person in their place? (Judges 7:7, 21).
E.	BE THE VERY BEST CHRISTIAN BY BEING FAITHFUL TO YOUR CHURCH.

TEXT: Psalm 122:1 “I was glad for the suggestion of going to Jerusalem, to the Temple of the Lord.”

INTRODUCTION;

•	The Church is not a building.
•	The Church is not one organization, faith or denomination.
•	The Church is made up with people of all churches.
•	The Church is set in the world, by God Himself.
•	The Church should be a place we are glad to attend, according to David in our text.

1.	THE CHURCH IS A BRIDE. (This speaks of CLEANLINESS)

“And you husbands, show the same kind of love to you wives as Christ showed to the church when he died for her, to make her holy and clean, washed by baptism and God’s word; so that he could give her to himself a glorious Church without a single spot or with a single fault” (Ephesians 5:25-27).

A.	The Church is made up of cleansed people.
B.	The cleansing begins when we accept Christ.
“When someone becomes a Christian he becomes a brand new person inside. Hi is not the same any more. A new life has begun” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
C.	This cleansing must be maintained.
“Try to stay out of all quarrels and seek to live a clean and holy life, for one who is not holy will not see the Lord” (Hebrews 12:14).
D.	Cleansed people make a cleansed Church.
E.	The Bible says we should cleanse ourselves.
“Having such a great promises as these, dear friends, lit us turn away from everything wrong, whether of body or spirit, and purify ourselves, living in the wholesome fear of God” (2 Corinthians 7:1).
F.	Daily we should resist sin.
G.	If we resist Satan, he will flee (James 4:7).
H.	God gives the needed power to overcome all temptation.
“But remember this — the wrong desires that come into your life aren’t anything new and different. Many others have faced exactly the same problems before you. And no temptation is irresistible. You can trust God to keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can’t stand up against it, for he has promised this and will do what he says. HE WILL SHOW YOU HOW TO ESCAPE TEMPTATION’S POWER SO THAT YOU CAN BEAR UP PATIENTLY AGAINIST IT” (1 Corinthians 10:13).

I.	Jesus said the pure in heart will see God (Matthew 5:8).

J.	Live a pure and holy life then you Church will become a pure and holy Church.
